Achieving a professional look requires consistent placement. Here are the two most common professional methods used in the industry:
1. Using a Placement Template (The "Cardboard" Method)
This is the most reliable way for beginners or manual setups. You create a physical guide to ensure every shirt looks the same.
Create a "L-Shaped" or T-Square Tool: Use a piece of stiff cardboard or acrylic.
The "Three-Finger" Rule: For a standard chest logo, the top of the transfer is usually 2 to 3 inches (approx. 5-7cm) below the collar.
How to use it: Place the template against the collar or shoulder seam. This gives you a fixed corner where you can align the edge of your transfer paper every single time.
2. Using Laser Alignment (Infrared/Red Light)
Many professional heat press machines come with Infrared Laser Positioning Systems.
How it works: The machine projects a red crosshair or line onto the fabric.
The Benefit: Once you calibrate the laser to the correct spot for the first shirt, you simply align the center of every following garment/transfer to the red light.
Accuracy: This eliminates human error and is much faster than using a ruler for every piece.
Key Positioning Tips for Your Project:
| Placement Type | Standard Location |
| Left Chest Logo | Aligned with the edge of the collar and the center of the armhole. |
| Center Front | Center the design between the left and right side seams, usually 3 inches below the neckline. |
| Back Nape | Centered, roughly 1-2 inches below the back collar seam. |
